The food we waste is responsible for roughly 8 percent of global emissions.
Project Drawdown – #3 Reduced Food Waste
Introduction

Project Drawdown is the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming. An international coalition of more than 200 researchers and other experts identified and modeled the 100 most substantive, already existing solutions for addressing global warming.
Thanks in part to John’s leadership, Indiana is a national leader in the third most effective way to reverse global warming — reducing food waste:
- The nonprofit he founded, K-12 Food Rescue, as well as the Indiana Department of Health and Indiana Department of Education, helped pass the nation’s very first state guidelines for school food rescue policies.
- K-12 Food Rescue partners with 900 schools throughout the country, and 30-40% of all schools in Indiana, to divert food from landfills to food pantries.
